I had a couple of people ask me how I made my pony ears for Applejack so I decided to put this little tutorial together. It's my first tutorial so if if you have any questions please let me know! I will answer them to the best of my ability.
Are you putting them on a wig or in your hair? If a wig you just have to play with the placement a little bit and make sure you get the bobby pins through the wefts too. If your real hair...it's probably not going to work. I hope that helps!
I would definitely suggest a headband. ^_^ The way the attach to the wig is through the wefts and even the wig cap so the ears have something really really sturdy to grab onto. With human hair, it's only grabbing onto the hair and hair is very fine so it won't be a sturdy.
This is great, thanks! All I need for my Applejack cosplay are the ears and I really wanted the plastic ones (because they seemed easy to wear, cheap, and looked really cute/MLP-esque) but I can't find them anywhere :C this was a great alternative ^_^
Mind if I ask you to be a little more clear on "sewing the pieces together"? I sort of get it but don't entirely, and I need all the detail, every last little piece to understand. If you have a video for which you made the ears that would be helpful, thanks.
Basically after cutting the triangles, 2 pink, 2 other colour, I sew them together, right? What do you mean by "cut the corners off" and where do I leave a hole to turn them inside out? I'm not good at sewing, how do I sew the three loops in the bottoms of the ears?
I need a fast response as I am making the ears this week and need them finished by Friday.
You sew the two triangles together like you would sew any other two pieces of fabric together. right sides facing each other, wrong sides facing out. You cut the corners off because when you flip it, if you leave the excess fabric there it will be lumpy and you won't get a nice looking triangle. You leave a little hole at the base of the ears to flip the ears right side out and then sew it closed. With the three loops, you just sew in basically a circle. You poke the needle through one side and out the other and keep poking the needle in on the same side and you'll get little loops. Just don't pull them too tight or you will never get the bobby pins through the loops.
